Masterclass Schedule

July 19th-21st, 2024

All classes & panels are held in Butler’s Lilly Hall, 3rd floor unless otherwise noted

All classes require pre-registration (except panels & Friday night events) and can be purchased individually or as part of a day pass. Classes are open to dancers of all levels aged 13+ (unless noted), including pre-professionals, professionals, serious students, and adults.

Friday 19th

6:00pm – 7:00pm

Community Class – FREE

Open Level Intro to Freestyle & Improvisation

Led by local legend King Koi, learn concepts & ideas on how to expand your improvisation skills. Be able to dance to any song confidently through games and exploration exercises.

Saturday 20th

10:30am – 11:15am

Community Class – FREE

Dance for Neurodivergent Movers (ages 8-12)

A 45 minute dance experience designed to explore and become more familiar with body movements, while learning ways to cope with emotions through the practice of dance. Led by dancers and professionals Breanna Davis, MS, BC-DMT, LMHCA and Robin Townsend, MA-ABA, RBT.

*Caregivers are welcome & encouraged to stay or participate, and a quiet room will be available for any needed breaks. Let’s learn together about the joy and connection made through dance!

Contemporary

Joshua Manculich

Level: Intermediate/Advanced

Contemporary Practice & Personal Voice –  in this class we work with technical and foundational contemporary and modern concepts while encouraging the artist to develop personal voice through improvisation and collaboration.

Mambo Shines and Stylization

Level: Beginner/Intermediate

Mambo done without a partner! Come experience footwork, body movement, and style for beginners in mambo.

Modern

Marc Spaulding

Level: Intermediate/Advanced

Expand your knowledge of modern dance. The class will include both codified Horton technique and contemporary ideas and movement principles.

LaVaughn Robinson Philly Style Tap

Robert Burden

Level: Intermediate/Advanced

(Taught in Studio 20 – Lilly Hall Basement)

This class will combine basic tap technique, musical structure, and traditional tap history with new, innovative styles being created in the tap world today. You’ll learn basic steps, time steps, Paddle and Roll, timing in music and improvisation and tap circles.

Ballet & Dance for 50+

Led by Roberta Wong

Ballet and Dance for 50+, in conjunction with Dance Every Journey, is designed to promote well-being while learning and discovering, in a calm and pleasant atmosphere. Suitable for experienced and novices, this all-standing class includes barre work and standing center with helpful modifications to keep you dancing through your lifetime. Dance shoes or socks, wear comfortable clothing you can move in.

Commercial Jazz

Beverly Jane Bautista

Level: Intermediate/Advanced

This class will focus on dance forms used in entertainment driven venues including and not limited to music videos, television, and film.

Kpop Choreography

Kathryn Taylor

Level: Open Level

We’ll explore the dynamic world of Kpop dance which incorporates various street styles and lively, repetitive movements that sync with the lyrics of Korean pop songs. Beginning with a quick warm-up, we’ll dive into mastering choreography from a recent Kpop hit.

Fundamental HipHop

Eclypse

Level: Beginner

This class will focus on foundational movements of HipHop dance.

Orishas In Motion: Afro-Cuban Dance & Music

Beatrice Capote

Level: Beginner/Intermediate

This class aims to invigorate your spiritual energies and foster a sense of community connection. You’ll immerse yourself in the dances associated with the Orishas, drawing from Afro-Cuban folklore, dance, and music traditions. Live music will be provided.

Ballet

Brandon Ragland

Level: Intermediate/Advanced

A ballet class that focuses on the movement of the body using correct alignment and muscle activation based on dance science.

Street Dance Fusion

Basko & Eclypse

Level: Intermediate/Advanced

We will explore the connection between American Street Dance and Afro Dance through movement and culture.

Adaptive Dance for All Abilities

Led by Claire Liechty, CTRS

Adaptive style class for teens and adults (13+) with developmental/intellectual disabilities exploring expression through movement and dance. Class will include basic jazz technique, locomotor skills, building confidence, community, and more!

*Class will include some helpers/assistants however dancers are welcome to be accompanied by a caregiver/therapist/support provider if needed.

ASL interpreters are available for all classes and panel discussions upon request. Large print materials are available upon request.
